چکیده

This article describes the gelation by PVC of supported liquid membranes (SLMs) for nitrate removal using a quaternary ammonium salt as carrier. Untreated SLMs with this carrier are very unstable. To improve their stability, the LM-phase was gelled with polyvinyl chloride as gel-forming polymer. Both homogeneous gelations of the LM-phase as well as the application of an interfacial gel layer are described. In all cases, no improvement of the stability could be observed. For both types of gelation, the initial nitrate flux decreased while the flux after 1 day of degradation was almost zero. The flux decrease is the result of a decrease of the the diffusion rate of carrier complex as a result of the presence of the gel network and the thickness of the applied gel layer. The absence of any stability improvement might indicate that the loss of LMphase from these membranes is due to dissolution of carrier or membrane solvent and not a result of emulsion formation only. q 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Removal of Dilute Benzene in Water through Ionic Liquid/Poly(Vinyl Chloride) Membranes by Pervaporation

This paper focuses on the effects of the addition of an ionic liquid, 1-Allyl-3-butylimidazilium bis(trifluoromethane sulfonyl)imide ([ABIM]TFSI), which has a high affinity for benzene, into the poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) membrane on the pervaporation characteristics of the removal of benzene from aqueous solutions of dilute benzene. When aqueous solutions of 100~500 ppm benzene were permeated ...

Supported liquid membranes: stabilization by gelation

A new method has been developed to increase the stability of supported liquid membranes. By applying a homogeneous gel network in the pores of the support both the mechanical stability (against liquid displacement) and the long term permeability increase substantially. The flux decreases only slightly because of the open structure of the gel network. A second technique, by which a thin dense ge...

Synthesis and characterization of Co3(Po4)2 and Ni3(Po4)2 composite membranes based on PVC: A Comparative electrochemical studies through aqueous electrolyte solutions

The mechanical stability is an important phenomenon which governs many applications based properties of membranes. The inorganic materials of membrane may have been synthesized by qualitative the novel sol-gel or co-precipitation methods of material synthesis. The mMembranes of cobalt (CP) and nickel (NP) composites have been was designed by mixing of the polyvinyl chloride (PVC) with cobalt ph...

A Study on Neodymium Recovery from Aqueous Solutions for Designing a New Generation of Sandwich Liquid Membrane

Liquid Membrane (LM) based processes, as Supported Liquid Membranes (SLMs), have been proposed, for over 30 years, as effective methods for the selective separation of inorganic/organic species from different water streams. The industrial use of SLMs has been limited mainly by their insufcient stability. To investigate on the main cause of system destabilization and the o...

Comparison of new optical sensor based on triazene ligand immobilized on PVC and triacetylcellulose membranes for Hg (II) Ion

For spectrophotometric analysis of Hg (II) ions, we have used and compared two membranes preparation methods using different polymer; one is poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and the other is triacetylcellulose (TAC). In the case of TAC membrane, it was treated with a ligand solution (1.166 × 10-3 mole L-1) in ethylenediamine at the ambient temperature for almost 2-5 min. However, in the case of PVC m...
